ScreenBlur’s aim is to protect your privacy and the way this free, InDeep Software-developed application goes about it is by letting you easily blackout the screen, lock it, mute the sound, and automatically lock down your desktop. When someone walks in and you don’t want that person to see your desktop, black it out. When you leave your PC and you don’t want someone else to access it while you’re gone, lock it down.

To get started with ScreenBlur, you will have to download a small archive (less than 1MB in size), extract its contents, run the executable, and pick a supported language. You can use the application on any PC powered by Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7.

While ScreenBlur is running, you will notice a lock icon in the system tray. By default, when you left click the icon your screen will be locked; and when you right click the icon, you will be presented with a context menu that, among other things, allows you to access the Settings menu. From the Settings you can change the default behavior. Switch it so that when you left click the tray icon nothing happens, the desktop will be blacked out, temporarily disable/enable lock on idle, or open the Settings menu.

As mentioned above, ScreenBlur can lock your desktop. The nice thing is that you can customize what is displayed on the screen when it is locked. You can even put a custom image as the lock screen.

ScreenBlur can be set to automatically run at startup and to automatically lock your PC if it’s been idle for a while. You can also set it so that when the screen is locked all sounds are muted and all windows, icons, gadgets, and the taskbar are hidden out of sight.

Hotkeys are supported. This means that you can very easily access all the functionality offered by ScreenBlur.

ScreenBlur is offered for free by InDeep Software.

Press a hotkey and ScreenBlur will lock your desktop and hide everything out of sight.

Pros

You will have no problems getting ScreenBlur up and running on your PC. You can change the lock screen image, you can change what happens when you click the system tray icon. Hotkeys are supported. ScreenBlur is a free application (consider making a donation).

Cons

None that I could think of.
